Spotigo WiFi-based Positioning
Spotigo's WiFi-based Positioning Solution (WiPS) allows tracking WiFi devices (such as PDAs, mobile phones, tablet PCs, laptops, etc.) or WiFi-tagged persons and material thanks to WiFi signal patterns: Whenever WiFi networks are in reach, Spotigo's software can determine the position of the device or item - with an accuracy of up to 1m and without the necessity of having established an online connection.
This positioning technology works completely independently from GPS. It is not only faster and cheaper than traditional positioning methods but, unlike GPS, it also supports indoor- and 3D-positioning.
As an example, Spotigo enables companies to control and coordinate staff/material in a more effective and efficient way by integrating optional mapping services. At the same time, people who carry WiFi-enabled devices (smartphones, PDAs, etc.) can see their own current location and find their way, other users or Points Of Interest (POIs) in their surroundings.

- Platform installed on a server
- Available for Windows XP, Vista, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Linux-based devices (any other platform on demand)
- The Positioning can be triggered by a central server (Push Positioning) or by the user (Pull Positioning)
- Works as a standalone solution or complementary to GPS/GSM-triangulation (especially in urban areas, indoors and to obtain first fix positioning data faster)
- Graphic interface to show the connections in an optional customized map
- Supports downloadable geo-map and radio-map data to be stored on device
- Allows tracking devices and storing information about them
- Supports 3D-positioning and indoor-positioning
Implementation:
- The application is individually adjusted to special requirements such as specific details of tracking, CI, etc.
- Automatic update of the application via the Spotigo update server
- API supports integration with other applications
