WiPS: the trailblazing technology behind the Location Finder Module
The Location Finder Module enables the end user to show his/her current position on a map and Points Of Interest (POIs) or other users nearby. It also enables the provider to know where the user is and - based on this - deliver Location Based Services (LBS) and push location sensitive content fully automatically.
To calculate the position of the user, WiPS takes advantage of the WiFi signal patterns discovered by the user's WiFi-enabled device. One of the key benefits of WiPS is the capability to use it not only outdoors but also indoors and for 3D-positioning. It can be deployed independently from, but also as a synergetic complement to GPS (e.g. to obtain the first fix position data faster).
